Hepatitis C: Egypt makes “unprecedented progress” towards elimination

Egypt has become the first country to achieve “gold tier” status on the path to elimination of hepatitis C, after diagnosing 87% of those living with the virus and providing curative treatment to 93% of them, the World Health Organization has reported.1
Praising the north African country, WHO said it has made “unprecedented progress” after successfully transitioning from having one of the highest rates (10%) of hepatitis C in the world to one of the lowest (0.38%) in just over a decade.
